I don't know about you, but I've got all these "stories" I tell myself that keep me stuck. It's like my feet are glued to start and there I stand not even trying. My husband and I put in a built in office for me about six months ago and I still haven't put everything away. Instead of my office being a sanctuary where I can relax and focus, it's a source of anxiety and overwhelm. I'm determinted to slay this beast one baby area at a time. Here are a few things I learned tonight from the small area I cleaned up.
STORY: I paid a lot of money for this stuff and it's not junk!
TRUTH: I did waste a lot of money on it, but if it's not doing anyone any good--IT'S MOST DEFINITELY JUNK!!
STORY: I'm going to need it someday.
TRUTH: If I really do need it some day--I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO FIND IT--says voice of experience
STORY: It's too OVERWHELMING!!
TRUTH: Maybe it seems that way, but the overwhelm I feel from looking at the stuff and stressing over it is a lot worse than anything "overwhelming about dealing with it one piece at a time.
STORY: I don't know HOW to get it all organized
TRUTH: EXCUSES!!!! I do know how. I just don't want to deal with it.
The older I get, the less STUFF matters to me. What if I focus on collecting memories instead of stuff.
CONFESSION: When I tell myself "I don't know how" or "This is overwhelming" I'm stuck on the starting block and the room remains a mess-which is where I've been for the last six months.
TRUTH: I CAN and WILL get this done!!!!
